I saw this show during it's previews and was utterly disappointed with nearly every aspect. Didn't Frank Wildhorn READ the novel? No pulse is what this show has. I've waited months for this show to appear on Broadway and was let down with a giant thud. The effects have no affect on the audience, plot or overall enjoyment of the piece. How could a group of creators write such a mundane version of a truly electrifying story. The original novel is full of sexual overtones, but here we don't even get a back-rub. The score is completely forgettable. They should have just done a revival of the play version that played on Broadway in the 1970's. This sort of venture is better attempted by such talents as Sondheim or Schwartz. While I have enjoyed some of Wildhorn's other works, this one made me wish they had waited until the material was ready before trodding the boards in New York. This time someone has really put a steak through the heart of a classic story. And no one is saved.

The question isn't just why does he keep writing such shitty music. It's why the fuck do producers actually throw their money away producing it? Aren't there enough talented writers out there... or at least writers who aren't proven to suck quite so hard that they could experiment with?

I can understand why he keeps writing. He get lots of money for easy, uninspired music. Believe me, if I were on that particular gravy train, I'd be writing till they pulled the pen out of my dead, gnarled hand.

He should be writing for Vegas, not Broadway.
