Canyon of Heroes II

A few weeks ago I blogged about the Canyon of Heroes markers in lower Manhattan. Before learning what the markers were for, I had e-mailed LowerManhattan.info to see if they knew the answer. Well, I just got the following e-mail:

Yay!

Coincidentally, this ran in the New York Times yesterday.

If Howard Dean Were the Candidate

If Howard Dean Were the Candidate…

Hmm… I’d like to believe this, but who knows. I would absolutely prefer to be watching Bush-Dean tonight instead of Bush-Kerry; I could see Dean clobbering Bush. I just think that no matter who the Democrats ran, the Republicans were prepared to ruin the candidate with a specifically-tailored attack plan. And the fact is, Kerry isn’t that far behind in the aggregate polls right now. Perhaps Dean would be doing even worse. We love to speculate as to what might have been; such speculation is a cousin of nostalgia and hope.

In an alternate universe, Dean is the Democratic nominee, and he’s currently kicking Bush’s ass. That’s not the universe we live in, but it’s nice to believe it’s happening somewhere. Human beings are nothing if not optimists.
