“Smallville” Gets Better

I’m loving “Smallville” this season. Before this season I’d watched it mainly out of habit, but now I’m really enjoying it. Last night I watched the two most recent episodes, and they were great — particularly “Run,” which included The Flash. Kyle Gallner, who played him, is a cutie, and there were a few nods to comics fans, including an allusion to the Justice League. The last five minutes, in which he and Clark say goodbye to each other, were so homoerotic — although that might be the wrong word to use. Their goodbye wasn’t sexual, just very affectionate and innocent.

But it did seem like Clark was in love with him.

In the next episode, Clark switched places with Lex’s father, Lionel, which let us see Tom Welling and John Glover imitate each other. Another nice one.

The show’s been smarter and funnier this season, and I like it.

Next week we get to see the writers’ take on Mxyzptlk — I can’t wait.
