I’m with kobenhavn… I think we’re totally screwed now. I concur that HEM wasn’t at all qualified, but the list of likely replacements chills me to the marrow.
Well, I don’t think we’re any less screwed than we were before Bush nominated Miers. I’m counting on the Democrats (perhaps naively, given recent history) to fight hard against any particularly noxious nominee, which I would have hoped they’d do before. I can imagine Bush and his toadies saying “It’s been long enough – the Senate must confirm a Supreme Court nominee already,” but hopefully that won’t sway things too much.
Miers was horrible and I’m happy not to see her on the Court, regardless of who comes next.
