Among all the election hubbub in Kentucky and Oregon last night, it turns out that Portland, Oregon elected its first gay mayor, Sam Adams. (Not this Sam Adams or this one.) Portland will be the largest city in the U.S. ever to have a gay mayor.

He’s so cute, too. Andy sure is lucky to live there.

5 drops of oil

  1. Hmm. I think I’d lean more toward “handsome.” Google shows he’s changed his look quite a bit in the past. I think this incarnation is the best so far, though.

  2. And we may follow suit in a couple of years. Almost every time I see Christine Quinn, the Speaker of the New York City Council, profiled, it mentions her as a favorite to run and/or the possible next mayor.

  3. My insignificant wide spot in the road of Ossining has had a gay mayor (my neighbor) since 2006. I think he was the first gay mayor in Westchester.

  4. Wow, I hadn’t read about this anywhere else. Well, even though this means that my hometown of Providence will lose its status as the biggest U.S. city with a gay mayor, I’m happy for Portland and for Mr. Adams. Now he has to do a good job, of course!

  5. Luck had nothing to do with it — I moved here in purpose! I may be blond, but I know what I’m doing.
